She's Done!

Well I did it. The mermaid is completed. Well not quite as I need the label, but it is designed and on the computer waiting to be printed.

Introducing Mystique’s FantaSea. The size is 15 ½ inches by 13 inches.

I am not overly thrilled with how I created this, but I am happy with it. I know I could have done more if I had not been in a rush to finish this up. I think the fact that I wanted to complete it to say it was done and then making the minor mistakes while working on it, just kind of took the fun out of it. I may come back to it and add a little more hand stitching across the bottom. We’ll see. Now to decide what the next project will be to work on.

I think you are being too hard on yourself - it's very nice! When I'm unhappy with something I try to focus on what I learned that will make the next project better. Then I put it away for several weeks. I'm usually much happier with it after it's been out of my sight for a while.

Hi!
Congratulations with this piece. I like Vicki W's comments too....except I think you ought to trust your instincts. You are ready to move on...but I don't think the piece is really finished yet. You are probably right that it needs some more hand stitching. Although quite beautiful (and I certainly couldn't have created all those fabulous machine embroidered miniature masterpieces), it isn't quite the magical, underwater fantasy land that this mermaid needs to inhabit. Put it away for a while. Tackle another WIP (see...I learned something!) and then go back to it. The individual elements are just too "individual"...especially along the bottom which could be an outrageous tangle of fabulous aquatic plant life. You've been working so hard on this and it is going so well that you likely just need some time to reflect. I really do think this could be even more amazing and I know you are just the stitcher to pull it off. Even if you don't elect to continue with additional work, please know that I've totally enjoyed watching this work progress and I'm completely in awe of your talent. Right down, I'm in the midst of an embroidery that is also a WIP. I have enjoyed the feedback from so many people..."Frame it"; "Add silver"; "Keep it simple"; "It's finished", etc. Just sort through all the comments (including mine) and find the path that makes your most happy. Again, I've loved watching this piece progress.

I like it Micki but I have to agree with Susan regarding the shells along the bottom--I think they are too individual- but if you added more stitching like you were thinking about it would bring them all together.
Just my opinion though.
BTW I love the mermaid.

It turned out beatiful but I agree with Doreen about the shells. Did you make this piece for someone special?

I know that feeling of wanting to finish something quickly, especially if it has taken a long time to make. I am sure you will find what is right for you and she does have such a wonderful underwater look.

It's a beautiful piece Micki - I agree with Doreen's and Ati's comments about the seashells - but at the same time I'm very happy that you explained how you made them - I'll give it a try (the embroidery unit isn't my best friend!!)

Micki-
you have done a stellar job with this piece...but I sure know what you mean about "the not quite finished" feeling...LOL...

I will just put the project aside for week or so & than revisit it with fresh eyes...

even though you felt "rushed" to finish it you have made a lot of progress on it...and it's not sitting lonely & unhappy in a pile somewhere ...VBG...

you'll know what to do to it when the time is right...

good job !!!

soooooooo...what's next ???????????

Hi Micki,
Is any piece ever finished?!?!
I agree you could do a bit more if it is staying with you. I usually hang it up and every time I pass it I look, think, make a note to cnange or add to.... I guess it will tell you when it is done.
Congratulations on a beautiful piece
((((hugs))))
